Learning English through Webtoon

Webtoon are pieces of comics published online on a free app called Webtoon which you can find in play store.
Teaching students reading comprehension with webtoons is more effective for them when learning English due to it makes students more interested in reading. They would not just read a text, but also they can see an illustared with color and interesting story.

• 2 reasons for choosing the topic

Some students have problems in comprehending texts to get information. To help them solve their problems, some media are developed. One of them is reading Webtoons. There are some reasons why the writer chooses webtoon to be applied for reading comprehension. 
First, the students in high school lose their interest in reading, specially reading an English book which doesn't have an illustration or interesting pictures which are very big and they have a complicated story.
Second, the sentence structure which is used in webtoon is simple, it is not complicated and difficult to understand by students in high school.
Third, the writer would like to know whether webtoons are effective for student reading comprehension. Therefore, the result of reading tests will reflect the efectiveness of webtoon to teach reading comprehension. Later, it can be used to develop a better strategy which can be applied in teaching reading comprehension.

Thus, there have been some studies which have proved how using comic strips increase students' motivation and reading comprehension levels. They have been done in other countries different from Colombia, like asian countries. That is why, using this kind of tool may be innovative to our context because here we are not used to apply different materials to teach reading rather than books, novels or newspapers.
